January 21: Partners Celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Last Friday, BWHers from all backgrounds joined together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by sharing memories, singing hymns and hearing the spoken word of the man who had a dream that all men treat one another as equals.
Robin Vann Ricca, MPH, JD, director, Organizational Development, Training and Diversity Management, said this was an opportunity to honor King’s philosophy. “Dr. King encouraged truth, justice, humility, and a voice and vision that filled a great void for our country,” she said
Offering musical talents for the event were Melody King, medical student coordinator, Department of Medicine; Vivian Cooley-Collier, administrative assistant, Office of Women’s Careers, and Paul White, keyboardist.
Vann Ricca also offered a time of reflection for audience members to share their remembrances and memories of Dr. King. One employee remarked, “Dr. King helped us understand that the struggle of being an African-American was a struggle for all of America.”
